Cork Blitz – 5 June 2010

Greystones Mariners got the blitz rolling with a great 18-0 win over hosts Cork Druids, who were in a rebuilding phase. The Mariners got the quota of 6 runs in each of their three innings, finishing with a home run by catcher Ryan Turner. Brian coronella also managed to shut out the Druids with his efficient pitching.[1]

The second Mariners game against the Clare Dolphins was a much tighter affair, with the Mariners narrowly winning 3-2. The dolphins took a two-run lead in the first at-bat with a big home run, however, the Mariners steadied the ship, bringing one runner home in the bottom of the second, whilst adding two in the third, the winning run a walk-off by Jami Turner sending David Kabele home.[1]

The final again matched Cork and Greystones, and Greystones ran out easy winners again, although by a narrower 12-4 margin this tie. Dylan Kelly and Matt McCann both scored home runs in the first innings for Greystones, as they brought in the full six runs. Ryan Turner came in as pitcher for the Mariners, giving up just four runs, and the Mariners notched up another six runs in the bottom of the second when the game was called due to time elapsing, leaving Greystones worthy winners.[1]
