Report

Fastpitch Softball is a competitive version of Recreational Mixed Softball, or Baseball, and in USA is primarily a Competitive Women’s version of the game, with a Professional League for women: National Pro Fastpitch.

It differs from the Recreational Coed version of the sport in that the pitching is very fast, and does not have to be in a soft arc like in traditional softball.

The Irish Fastpitch Softball League was started in 2019-20 (although it is currently Coed / Mixed – with an even number of Males and Females), after a decade of Softball Ireland’s Fadtpitch Programme, which included the start of the Women’s Ireland National Team.

There were intended to be Playoffs played, but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, Week 4 (Playoffs) had to be cancelled.

All matches were played at The National Indoor Arena in Blachardstown, Dublin 15, on the Indoor Turf Pitch.

Report

After the Softball Boom of the 1990s when there were over 60 Softball teams in the Leinster League, including many from Computer Technology businesses, Softball Ireland created a separate Business House League in the 2000s.

In 2006 The League included six teams, some clearly taking it seriously, such as Seagate Supersonics, another Computer firm, and others just having a bit of fun: “Sarah’s test team 2 for 2007 stuff” and Bat-Man. Also included in the team Line-Up were Top Team, MOP and Southsliders.

Report

Hot Totties (2004), Allstars (2004-05), Fire Crackers (2005 and 2006), Southsiders (2006-07), Paddy Whacks (2007) and Southern Comfort (2008) were the top teams in the Netball Dublin Southside League from 2004 to 2008.

About

Netball Dublin was an Independent Mixed Netball Association (and Indoor Football), that ran Mixed 6-a-side and 7-a-side Netball in the Northside and Southside of Dublin. It catered mainly for Australian, New Zealander, and South African immigrants, whilst also catering for Irish players. It was not connected to Netball Ireland. It ran from 2003 to 2008 (possibly a couple of years earlier and later as well), running Summer & Winter Leagues, and was replaced by Dublin Indoor Sports. It had two facilities, in Rathmines (Southside) and St. Paul’s Secondary School, Stoneybatter (Northside), where all matches were held for either the Northside Leagues or Southside Leagues.

The Leagues were graded from Competitive to Intermediate A & B and Beginners, with each Grade played on a specific day of the week, Southside Competitive being played on Tuesdays.
