Student Sport Ireland Women’s Tier 1 Cup 2019-20 [Ref: 2]

Report

The Student Sport Ireland Women’s Volleyball Tier 1 Cup Final between NUI Galway and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland was postponed, presumably due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, which led to the government cancelling all sporting activity from March until mid-July 2020.

NUI Galway had earlier defeated IT Carlow in the semi-finals, and Royal College of Surgeons had knocked out Technological University of Dublin City Campus and Maynooth University.

Trinity College Dublin won the Student Sport Ireland Men’s Volleyball Tier 1 Cup in 2019-20, after triumphing 3-1 over Athlone IT in the Final, held in Maynooth University. They had earlier defeated Dublin City University in the Quarter-Finals, and Technological University of Dublin City Campus in the Semi-Finals.

Leinster Softball Association Female Division Regular Season Results 1997

Report

Marlay Martyrs and Brazen Hussies met in the first Final of the Leinster Softball Association Female League in 1997, having had only Co-ed Leagues prior to that. The two teams had finished top of the six-team League with identical 9-1 Wins-Losses records, and after winning one game each against each other during the season it was no surprise that the Final was also close, with Brazen Hussies coming out on top 18-16.

Usual Suspects won the Leinster Softball Association 6th Division Final in 1997, after receiving a walkover from Ashton Slammers in the Final. They had compiled a 5-2 Wins-Losses Record during the Regular season (17 Pts) and defeated Findlater Specials 22-7 in the Semi-Finals.

In 1998 the Champions were Loan Homers Moe (7-1, 22 Pts). This was the second and last year of the 6th Division, as four of the five teams were promoted and no teams were demoted.

The Leinster Softball Association 6th Division was one of 8 Divisions in 1997 and 7 in 1998, including a Female Division both years, and a Male Division in 1997. It was a Co-ed League, and Level 6 in the LSA Co-ed League structure.

The Leinster Softball Association ran a Male Division in 1997 as well as a Female Division and six Co-ed Divisions. Seven teams entered but only two matches appear to have been played, involving three teams, so it is unclear if it was finished or whether a Champion was declared. Marlay Martyrs A won the Leinster Softball Association 1st Division title in 1999 in fine style, winning all seven games in the Stage 2 Primary Conference, after also winning all seven games in Stage 1, where the 14 teams were divided into two Divisions: East and West

After the season, the 8 teams in the Primary Conference made up the new Primary 1 Division for 2000, with the 8 teams in the Secondary Conference making up the Primary 2 Conference.

There were relegation / promotion playoffs, after which Diamond Dogs retained their place in the Primary 1 Division, and Jammy Dodgers retained their place in the Primary 2 Conference. Big Al’s Flyers, Troops, and Underpant Gnomes were all relegated to the new Senior Division (Third Level).

Softball Leinster Division 2 Results 2020 [Reference: 2]

Report

After a four month delay to the start of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Outbreak, the Softball Leinster Schedule was finally released in July [Ref: 3-4]. A reduced number of teams were able to sign up for a mini-season, with new team Ashbourne Antlers, Deadly Suspects, Homers, Inglorious Batters, Renegade Reapers and Thirsty Camels making up Division 2. [Ref: 2]

Homers won the Division 2 title by 2 Games (6 Points) from Renegade Reappears after defeating the North Dublin team 19-15 on the Final Day of the season in a winner-takes-all match-up. New team Ashbourne Antlers joined the Division in 2020, with a walkover win against Inglorious Batters from Lucan on the Final Day of the season, consigning the Batters to third place. Deadly Suspects and Thirsty Camels finished fourth and fifth respectively.

A reduced number of teams were able to sign up for a mini-season, with Batpak, Dodder Dynamoes, Kegs and Temple Bar Hippetys making up the Premier Division. [Ref: 2]

By the end of August Batpak and Dynamoes were both on 3-1 Records, with Kegs just one game back on 2-2.
